FKAAS Researchers Win Two Gold Medals At PECIPTA 2019
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasmin Zainun and Assoc. Prof. Ts. Sr. Dr. Mustaffa Anjang Ahmad won a gold medal each at the recently concluded International Conference and Exposition on Inventions by Institutions of Higher Learning (PECIPTA 2019) for "Smart Composter Machine" and "E-Khairat: Muslim Cemetery Locator and Management System" respectively. Dr. Mustaffa's invention also won a Special Award for Contribution To The Community. FKAAS would like to congratulate Dr. Yasmin, Dr. Mustaffa and their research team members on this outstanding achievement.

Benchmarking Visits To Universities
A series of visits to several universities in Malaysia were conducted by FKAAS in preparation for the forthcoming Bachelor of Civil Engineering programme audit by Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC). The FKAAS delegation led by Deputy Dean (Academic & Internationalisation) Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Haziman Wan Ibrahim visited Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on 12 April 2018, 25 April 2019 and 26 April 2019 respectively. Dr. Nor Azizi Elected Vice President Of International Association
FKAAS would like to congratulate Ts. Dr. Nor Azizi Yusoff on his appointment as Vice President of the International Press-In Association (IPA) that is based in Tokyo, Japan. IPA is a professional body with over 700 members from around the world specialising in Silent Piling technology.

Our Students Bag 3 Awards At Undergraduate Project Competition
FKAAS students won three awards at the 4th Undergraduate Seminar - Built Environment & Technology (USBET 2019) organised by and held at Universiti Teknologi MARA (Sri Iskandar Campus) on 12 June 2019. The awards included Best Presenter Award for Oral Presentation (Nurfaiqah Jamri), Silver Award for Poster Presentation (Nurul Nasquin Rozaini) and Bronze Award for Oral Presentation (Aisah Rustan). Congratulations to the winners and their supervisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Akasah on this proud achievement.

Smart Composter Machine Wins Two Gold Medals
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Yasmin Zainun and her team of researchers have done the university proud by winning two Gold Medals for their creation, the Smart Composter Machine. It recently won a Gold medal at the International Innovation, Creativity and Technology Exhibition (i2CreaTE) 2019 held from 12 to 14 April 2019 in Kuala Lumpur. Earlier it bagged a Gold medal at the Innovation and Invention Competition through Exhibition (iCompEx) 2019 held from 19 to 21 March 2019 in Kedah en route to winning overall 3rd Prize in the competition. The Smart Composter Machine has been commercialised by Syarikat Sarjani Agro Shop through the PPRN grant and has since increased the company's production by 150%.

FKAAS Forms Emergency Response Team
In line with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (1994) and Factories and Machinery Act (1967), FKAAS has established its own Emergency Response Team (ERT). The 33-member team has been tasked to prepare for and respond to any emergency incident, such as a fire and chemical spills. The ERT FKAAS organisation chart can be viewed here.

FKAAS Organises CSR Program At SK Convent Batu Pahat
FKAAS organised a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program called "Gotong-Royong Perdana" at SK Convent Batu Pahat on 16 March 2019. The program was officiated by Batu Pahat member of parliament, Dato' Hj. Mohd Rashid Hasnon and involved volunteers from FKAAS, SK Convent, Kuwait Finance House and FKAAS Students Civil Engineering Association (PPA). The report can be viewed here.

Prof. Idrus Wins Silver In Seoul
Prof. Mohd Idrus Mohd Masirin took home a silver medal at the 2018 Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF 2018) that was held from 6th to 9th December 2018 at the COEX Convention Center Grand Ball Room, Seoul, South Korea. Congratulations to Prof. Idrus and his research team for their winning invention "Repomix - A DIY Minor Road Maintenance Material".

FKAAS Organises ISCEE'18 In Kuala Lumpur
The faculty organised the 2nd International Symposium on Civil and Environmental Engineering (ISCEE'18) on the 3rd and 4th of December 2018 at the Federal Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The symposium was attended by more than 160 participants from 8 nations. The theme for the second edition of the symposium was "Enriching Communities Through Sustainable Engineering".

Prof. Amir Awarded The Title 'Emeritus Professor'
Prof. Ir. Dr. Amir Hashim Mohd Kassim, a Professor of Hydrology and Water Resources at the faculty was awarded the title 'Emeritus Professor" at the 18th UTHM Convocation Ceremony held on 20 October 2018. Congratulations Prof. Amir on this highly distinguished honour.

Our Lecturers Take Part As Invited Speakers In Indonesia
Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Haziman Wan Ibrahim, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norzila Othman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Radin Maya Saphira, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Irwan Juki and Dr. Ahmad Zurisman Mohd Ali took part in the International Conference on Industrial Revolution 4.0 Construction, Transportation and Sustainable Development as Invited Speakers, held on 19 September 2018 in Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNS). Apart from that, FKAAS and UNS were also in talks to forge partnerships in future student and staff mobility programs. Our Students Undergo Industrial Training In Indonesia
Nine FKAAS students are currently undergoing industrial training at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) in Indonesia under the FKAAS International Mobility Program. The undergraduates have been placed at Fakultas Teknik (Faculty of Engineering) under the Department of Civil Engineering for their three-month internship, which will end in September 2018.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology's Prof. Yusak Gives Talk in FKAAS
The faculty hosted Prof. Yusak Susilo, a professor at the Department of Transport Science, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden on 2 July 2018 for an academic talk titled "Autonomous Vehicle Trial in Stockholm" and for a discussion on sustainable campus transportation with members of the Smart Driving Research Center (SDRC). Prof. Yusak is a member of the Travel Behaviour and Values standing committee of the US Transportation Research Board (TRB) and a board member of the International Association for Travel Behaviour Research (IATBR).

Our Students In Hong Kong For Industrial Training
Four FKAAS students, Nurul Nasquin Rozani, Nur Afifah Ahmad, Yaw Zoe and Arisya Abdul Latip are currently undergoing industrial training at City University of Hong Kong under the FKAAS International Mobility Program. Their internship commenced on 7 June 2018 and is expected to end on 18 August 2018.

Our Students Win 2 Awards At Undergraduate Seminar
FKAAS students won two awards at the 3rd Undergraduate Seminar on Built Environment and Technology held at UiTM Seri Iskandar on 15 May 2018. Liew Pok Huai won the Best Research Award for Poster Presentation for his project "A Proposed Design of Solar Street Light Towards Energy Efficiency For UTHM", while Ahmad Azfar Roslan took home the Best Research Award for Oral Presentation for his project "The Implementation of Solar Photovoltaic Panel Installation on Roof Top for UTHM Buildings".

Our Researchers Win 3 Medals At ITEX 2018
FKAAS researchers brought home three medals from the 29th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2018) that was held at the KLCC Convention Centre on 10 - 12 May 2018. Our Students Win 3 Awards For Best Thesis
FKAAS students won three awards for Best Thesis in Hydrology and Water Resources in conjunction with the national celebration of World Water Day held in Kuala Kangsar on 24 March 2018. Muhammad Sulhi Zainudin won the Gold Medal for Best Thesis (Bachelor), while Muhamad Nazmie Abdul Kadir won the Silver Medal for Best Thesis (Master) and Dr. Zalilah Murni Mat Ali @ Yunus took the Bronze Medal for Best Thesis (PhD). The faculty congratulates all winners and their supervisors.

Concordia University's Prof. Maria Gives Talk At FKAAS
The faculty was honoured to host Prof. Maria Elektorowicz from Concordia University, Canada for an academic talk titled "Contaminated Soil Remediation and Electro-containment" that was held on 18 March 2018 at FKAAS. Prof. Maria is a renowned Environmental Engineering professor who is currently the Chair of the Environmental Engineering Division at Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and the president of RESOL, an inter-university network of experts for soil contamination.

Assoc. Prof. Mustaffa Wins Two Awards
Assoc. Prof. Sr. Dr. Mustaffa Anjang Ahmad recently won two awards for his invention "E-Khairat: Muslim Cemetery System". He won a Silver Medal at the 8th Exposition on Islamic Innovation (i-INOVA) 2018 that was held in Negeri Sembilan from 10 to 11 March 2018 and a Bronze Medal at the Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE) 2018 that was held in Kuala Lumpur from 22 to 24 February 2018. The faculty congratulates Assoc. Prof. Mustaffa and his team of researchers.

Our Student Takes Part In ASEAN-China Youth Winter Camp
Lim Way Mei, a student at FKAAS, participated in the ASEAN-China Youth Winter Camp in Changchun and Harbin from 21 to 28 December 2017. The week-long camp was hosted by the ASEAN-China Center (ACC) and organised by Jilin University. Way Mei was one of 33 campers from ASEAN nations, China, Japan and Republic of Korea, who participated in events such as academic exchanges, historical and cultural relics visits, ice and snow experience, and cultural and sports interaction activities.

Our Student Wins REAM President's Award
FKAAS student, Komala Devi Sundararajan has made the faculty and university proud by winning the Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM) President's Award for Final Year Best Civil Engineering Student Project. Komala's project "Willingness to Use Overhead Bridge Facilities based on Theory of Planned Behaviour" was judged the best among entries from universities all over Malaysia. The faculty congratulates Komala and her supervisor Dr Kamarudin Ambak on this achievement.

International Conference Attracts Participants From All Over The World
The 4th International Conference on Civil and Environmental Engineering for Sustainability (IConCEES 2017) organised by FKAAS in Langkawi, Kedah on 4 - 5 December 2017 was a resounding success. More than 170 participants from 11 countries attended the two-day event, which featured keynote addresses by Prof. Atsushi Koike from Kobe University, Japan and our very own Prof. Ahmad Tarmizi Abd Karim.

Dr. Nickholas Anting Guntor won a Gold medal at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2017 for his product "Moval Drain System". The invention fair was held from 30 November 2017 to 3 December 2017 in Seoul, South Korea. The faculty congratulates Dr. Nickholas and his team of researchers on this proud achievement.

Assoc. Prof. Aeslina Wins Three Awards For Her Inventions
Congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aeslina Abdul Kadir and her research team for winning a Gold Award at the International Warsaw Invention Show (IWIS) held in Poland from 9 - 11 October 2017 for her invention "Recycling Toxic Mosaic Sludge Waste Into Fired Clay Brick (MSB)", which also took home the Special Award bestowed by the Taiwan International Invention Award Winners Association. Earlier, Dr. Aeslina won a Silver Award at the International Conference and Exposition on Inventions by Institutions of Higher Learning (PECIPTA 2017) in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu from 7 - 9 October 2017 for her invention "Automated Reward Recycle Bin (ARRB)".

FKAAS Receives Students from Indonesia under Inbound Mobility Program
FKAAS welcomed 15 undergraduate students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), Indonesia under the faculty's International Inbound Mobility Program. The primary objective of this short-term mobility program is to enable students from a visiting country to gain new experiences in education and culture. The students, under the supervision of Dr Alvin John Lim Meng Siang, will be exposed to university life in UTHM, Malaysian culture, and civil engineering practice in Malaysia through educational trips.

Our Staff Appointed as Council Member of REAM
FKAAS Senior Industrial Fellow, Ir. Dr. Raha Abd Rahman from the Department of Infrastructure and Geomatic Engineering has been appointed Council Member of the Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM) for the term 2017 - 2019. The announcement was made during the 20th Annual General Meeting of REAM on 11 July 2017.

Our Students Undergo Industrial Training in China
Ten FKAAS final year students were selected to undergo Industrial Training for ten weeks at Himin Solar Ltd and International Micro Emission University (IMEU) in Shandong, China. This International Internship Program is aimed at exposing students to civil engineering works and providing them with the opportunity to apply the new knowledge upon their return. These students are supervised by their Industrial Supervisors in China as well as Faculty Supervisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Akasah.

Our Students Head to Indonesia for Industrial Training
Seven undergraduates from FKAAS were selected to participate in a 10-week Industrial Training program under the faculty's International Mobility Program. The students were placed at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), Indonesia under the supervision of Mr. Mochamad Solikin and Mr. Anto Budi. During their internship from 19th July 2017 to 25th August 2017, the students were hosted by Pesma K.H Mansyur Campus 4.

Professional Engineers Invited To Evaluate Students' Projects
FKAAS was honoured to have members of our Industry Advisory Panel along with several other invited civil engineering practitioners at the faculty for a three-day program from 28 to 30 May 2017 as part of our Bachelor programme enhancement effort. The program coincided with the Final Year Project Seminar and Integrated Design Project presentations. The industry experts evaluated the students' presentations, and provided valuable feedback on the implementation of the projects and gave advice to students. The program also saw them providing input on the contents of our Bachelor programme.

Head of SDRC to Lead Tactical Committee on Road Safety
Dr.-Ing. Joewono Prasetijo, Head of Smart Driving Research Center (SDRC) has been appointed Chairman of the MySafe Road Project Tactical Committee for Batu Pahat by the Director General of the Malaysian Road Safety Department (JKJR). As chairman, Dr.-Ing. Joewono will have to report to the National Steering Committee that is headed by the Deputy Minister of Transportation, Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi. In addition to this, SDRC has been commissioned as the Key Research Center for conducting a Baseline Road Safety Study and a Study on the Effectiveness of Road Safety Interventions for Batu Pahat.

Seminar on Concrete Repair and Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures
Jamilus Research Center (JRC) in association with UTHM Holdings and the Malaysia Public Works Department's Center of Excellence for Engineering and Technology (CREaTE) successfully organised the first "Seminar on Concrete Repair and Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures 2017" on 16 May 2017 at Dewan CREaTE in Melaka. About 80 participants attended this seminar, which included talks by our Faculty experts, Prof. Ir. Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Samad and Assoc. Prof. Dr. A.S.M. Abdul Awal.

International Seminar on Sustainable Transportation and Safety Measures
Smart Driving Research Center (SDRC) with the support of Worldwide Ultimate Solutions (WUS) held the 1st International Seminar on Sustainable Transportation and Safety Measures on 16 April 2017 at Tunku Tun Aminah Library. The seminar featured guest lectures by Prof. Panos Prevedouros from University of Hawaii at Manoa, Prof. Atsushi Koike (Kobe University), Prof. Leksmono Suryo Putranto (Universitas Tarumanagara), Prof. Ludfi Djakfar (Universitas Brawijaya), Ir. Mohd Rasid Othman (MIROS), Maisara Ashran Mustafa (JKJR), Hita Mahardhika (PTV Asia Pacific) and our very own Dr.-Ing. Joewono Prasetijo.

Our Students Join Top-Ranked City University of Hong Kong for One Semester
FKAAS is proud to announce that two of its students were eligible to participate in a one-semester Credited Mobility Program at City University of Hong Kong (CityU HK). This is seen as a great achievement, given that CityU HK is currently ranked 49th in the QS World University Rankings and 46th by Subject (Civil & Structural Engineering). Globally recognised as a top center for higher learning and research, CityU HK will seamlessly provide the students, Nurul Amira Zainudin and Nurusyahira Hanani Muhamad, with the opportunity to gain new experiences in a diverse learning environment.

Our Researcher Bags Top Prize at Malaysian Technology Expo
Dr. Nickholas Anting Guntor made FKAAS proud by emerging as the cream of the crop at the Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE 2017) that was held from 16 to 18 February 2017. Dr. Nickholas' innovative product called 'MOVAL Drain System' was presented with a Gold Medal and a Special Award enroute to winning the Best Of The Best Award, beating out 300 products from all around the world. The product is a new technology that prevents leakage and fungus by removing moisture from the mortar layer. Meanwhile, another FKAAS researcher Mr. Mohd Baharuddin Rizuan took home a Silver Medal for his product called 'Dr. Brick'.
